The DEKRA Safety Champions 2016 have been announced: the Truckers Life Foundation (safety on the road), Voith (safety at work) and AXA (home safety category) impressed the high-caliber jury with their ideas and commitment to greater safety. The DEKRA Awards were presented on October 25, 2016 in Düsseldorf.
The globally active expert organization DEKRA, together with WirtschaftsWoche, Germany's leading business magazine, has been presenting the DEKRA Award for many years. Expert panels evaluated the submissions in three categories based on demanding criteria - for example, the degree of innovation, effectiveness and transferability of the solution presented.
“With the DEKRA Award, we want to honor the companies and, above all, the people behind them, who stand for exemplary ideas and initiatives in the field of safety,” said Stefan Kölbl, Chairman of the Board of Management of DEKRA e.V. and DEKRA SE, at the award ceremony in the Böhler Areal in Düsseldorf. "The DEKRA Award should lead to these great ideas being implemented elsewhere. And they can serve as inspiration for our own approaches. We are already looking forward to the great ideas next year."
The high-caliber jury selected the following Safety Champions for the DEKRA Award 2016:
“Road Safety” category
Truck drivers are the crucial link in the logistics chain, and driver fitness is an important factor in road safety. The Truckers Life Foundation is creating a network of outdoor fitness facilities at petrol stations and service stations in Europe. Truckers can spend their free time actively outdoors there. So far, there are around 60 facilities, most of them in Poland, but there are also some in Germany. The aim is to have 1000 facilities throughout Europe. The equipment can be used without instructions; training material and videos are available in addition to the fitness equipment.
Category “Safety at work”
The documentation of unsafe conditions, unsafe behavior and near-accidents is important information for improving occupational safety. The globally active family-owned company Voith is now using a self-developed occupational safety app eVAP at all its locations. Employees use it to record and transmit potential hazards directly at the workplace via smartphone or tablet - regardless of production processes or national borders. The information on potential accident risks is used by supervisors on a daily basis to improve occupational safety.
Category “Safety at home”
Experts estimate that over 60 percent of accidents involving children are preventable. Many accidents happen at home, especially to young children. TheAXA child safety initiative addresses this issue. It provides parents with well-founded information about risks, accompanied by experts, as well as everyday tips and information. The aim is to sensitize parents and thus contribute to children growing up safely. The measures of the AXA Child Safety Initiative range from studies on prevention behavior and information campaigns to child safety training and expert lectures.
