Pioneer for sustainability in professional sport

The six professional clubs VfL Wolfsburg, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, FC St. Pauli, SC Paderborn 07, SV Werder Bremen and VfB Stuttgart have taken part in the sustainClub sustainability certification by the independent expert organization DEKRA. sustainClub is the first and only recognized sustainability standard and orientation framework in professional soccer.

  • Neutral certification by DEKRA experts
  • Six Bundesliga clubs set standards in the area of sustainability
  • sustainClub first recognized sustainability standard for soccer clubs

By achieving the award, the clubs are taking on a pioneering role in professional sport. The sustainClub standard was developed in cooperation with the Swiss organization sustainable///sports in a one-year pilot phase with DEKRA as an independent certification company.

The clubs have identified the challenges relating to sustainability in professional soccer and can use the award to demonstrate their commitment to a better future in the three areas of sustainability (economic, environmental and social). The standard includes the development of a CSR and sustainability management system, a sustainability analysis and the identification of specific opportunities for improvement.
