The expert organization DEKRA presented the DEKRA Award again in 2021 after a year's break due to coronavirus: This year's coveted prizes went to: AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH (Traffic Safety category), Ottobock SE & Co. KGaA (safety at work) and BAG Mehr Sicherheit für Kinder e.V. (safety at home). The prize for start-ups will be determined by online voting on October 29, 2021.
“The winners have impressed with ideas that are groundbreaking in their disciplines,” says Stefan Kölbl, Chairman of the Management Board of DEKRA e.V. and DEKRA SE. “This year's DEKRA Award shows that Digitalization, artificial intelligence and machine learning open up new possibilities for greater safety. The high number of participants and the excellent quality of the concepts submitted prove the extraordinary relevance of the DEKRA Award as a platform for safety solutions of the digital future.”
The globally active expert organization DEKRA, together with WirtschaftsWoche, Germany's leading business magazine, has been presenting the DEKRA Award for many years and honors pioneering top performance in the service of safety.
One new feature of this year's DEKRA Award concerns the Startups category. Three nominated companies can present their innovations online in the form of a three-minute pitch in the final round. The race for the public's favor via online voting app starts on October 29, 2021. participation: https://www.linkedin.com/events/livepitch-3startups-3ideas-3min6853984021165203456/
The Safety Champions 2021 were selected by the high-caliber jury in the three classic categories:
The Mobility Observation Box (MOB) from the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology makes road safety measurable. The innovation makes it possible to screen the safety of traffic infrastructure, i.e. to measure it according to objective criteria and thus make it comparable. Once the data has been collected, different road user groups - such as pedestrians, cyclists, cars, trucks and e-scooters - are automatically identified, classified and their traffic behavior evaluated using machine learning. This forms the basis for targeted improvement measures for greater road safety.
Exoskeletons from Ottobock optimize safety and ergonomics in industrial workplaces. The aids support people in physically demanding tasks such as overhead work or lifting activities. They can be easily used in daily production operations. They measurably reduce physical strain and thus create healthier working conditions. The innovative concept has established itself and opened up a new product field for which many more areas of application can be developed in the future.
With the interactive 3D application “Virtual Giant Kitchen”, the BAG is expanding its educational program on child safety with the “More Safety for Children” initiative. After all, the kitchen is the number one accident black spot in the home. The virtual solution for PCs, smartphones and VR glasses puts users in the shoes of a 1.5-year-old child. From this altered perspective, various accident risks can be discovered and minimized. The virtual world is educational and raises awareness in the long term.
