30 Jahre – und weiter geht’s: DEKRA

The DTM touring car series and DEKRA, one of the world's leading expert organizations, officially extended their long-standing partnership during the race weekend at the DEKRA Lausitzring. Under the renewed agreement, the DEKRA experts - in cooperation with the German Motor Sport Association (DMSB) - will continue to be responsible for the technical scrutineering of the DTM cars. DEKRA also remains an important sponsor of the series.

  • Sponsorship commitment also renewed
  • Berger: “We’re pleased that DTM can continue to rely on DEKRA’s expertise.”

“We are delighted that we can continue to count on the technical expertise of our long-standing partner DEKRA in the DTM,” said Gerhard Berger, Chairman of the Board of ITR, the governing body of the DTM. “Such a long, close and trusting partnership is truly exceptional in motorsport.”

DEKRA and ITR have traveled a remarkable path together over three decades. After the end of the original DTM in 1996, DEKRA entered the revived series with undiminished commitment and provided technical scrutineers under license from the first race in 2000. Since then, DEKRA has continuously expanded its involvement. In 2012, the organization took over the operational implementation of scrutineering in cooperation with the DMSB.

What began in 1989 with mainly mechanical measuring and testing devices has evolved considerably in line with new technologies and regulations. Today, digital measuring arms with scanning function and automated data analysis via more than 200 data channels are used for acceptance testing. In cooperation with the DMSB, DEKRA is constantly developing new inspection methods and identifying optimization potential to ensure fairness and equal opportunities for all participants.

The DEKRA Technology Center at the Lausitzring is home to many DEKRA employees from the DTM operation. In their daily work, they test driving dynamics, exhaust emission values and much more - all according to the latest standards.

DEKRA's expertise and capabilities were also demonstrated by its contributions to the DTM's pioneering safety concept in 2012. The DEKRA Technology Center in Klettwitz and the Crash Test Center in Neumünster carried out the preliminary tests for the development phase as well as all the static and dynamic tests required for homologation.

Clemens Klinke, Member of the DEKRA Board of Management: "We are proud that we have been contributing to safety in the DTM for over 30 years. Our colleagues consistently do an outstanding job and are highly respected by teams and organizers alike. We are very pleased to continue this successful partnership."
